NJ: Ballpark effects on the Cubs

Many teams fail to understand just how important building a team to match the environment is. The Chicago Cubs for years and years struggled in Wrigley Field. Their pitching, it seemed, could never match up to their offense. In fact, though, their pitching may have been just fine. It may have been their offense that would have struggled if it had played in a less generous park than Wrigley. While the pitchers appeared worse than they were, the batters appeared better. So when the Cubs traded away seemingly bad pitchers and kept seemingly good hitters, they may have been trading away good pitchers and keeping bad hitters. The difference was in the ballpark factor.
