Kentucky is well known for its horse racing. And most people who know
Kentucky horse racing know Churchill Downs, Louisville's famous racetrack that houses the Kentucky Derby each Spring. But
Kentucky is a two-city state, and Lexington also has its share of horse racing history.
In Lexington, Keeneland is the #1 racetrack, and one that falls among
the finest in the nation. Although Keeneland also has its share of big races, what makes it such an interesting racetrack
is its atmosphere, which is easily on par with Churchill Downs on most days. Keeneland is marked by stone walls and a great
deal of high end seating and suite areas. Its infield is extremely well maintained and its relatively new grass track makes
it a fine course as well.
Of course, there are reasons Keeneland isn't as well known as Churchill
Downs. It, of course, doesn't host any of racing's huge races, and it is a fairly small track. Its grandstand lacks the aesthetic
beauty of its in-state rival track, and it is perhaps better known for the auctions that take place on the site than for the
races there.
Still, Keeneland has the advantage of close proximity to Cincinnati,
and it certainly is an enjoyable place to watch a race.
